Keeping the vocal folds hydrated is important for overall optimum singing!
The vocals folds vibrate at a ridiculous speed per second, generally ranging from approximately, 100 times per second to approximately, a 1000 times per second or even more, depending on the pitch.
Hydrating the vocal folds helps them to stay flexible so that they can vibrate freely for singing.
WHY THE NEBULISER?
You may have heard about steaming the vocal folds, but based on studies the nebuliser is a much better option for hydration. Here’s why…
First of all, the nebuliser is used with saline instead of water. Our vocal fold cells are made up of 0.9% saline so using 0.9% saline solution to hydrate them, is a much more effective way of lubricating the vocal folds. Basically, saline which is known as isotonic, matches the fluid properties in our body’s cells…
